That “Magical” Ride

Before Morgan was even born we had heard from a few mothers about the magical car ride and how easy it was to put a child to sleep. At the very beginning, we did have to use it on a few rare occasions when she got really fussy. For the most part we used it for desperate moments to mainly calm down and it worked about 95% of the time. I’m not sure what it is about the car ride that seems to work for the most part but its magical.

Lately, Morgan has been very difficult to put to sleep and has gotten into rare form on her sleep and needing less sleep. She doesn’t want to go to sleep until 8:45-9 pm and some nights its even been later than that. When she just wont go to sleep, its car ride time and she is usually out within a few minutes. Some nights we use it because sleep is precious and our little Morgan needs her beauty sleep. Other nights its out of desperation to just get her to sleep.

Well fast forward to last night and we used the magical car ride 3 times. Yes you did read that right-3 times. She went to sleep the first time before 9. Could never really get settled into a great sleep which meant mommy and daddy didn’t get to sleep either. Then woke up at 11 pm. We tried to go on the magical car ride around 12 for over 30 minutes and the magic seemed to disappear. As much as we just wanted to her to go to sleep, it just didn’t happen. After a few more desperate attempts at getting her to bed, we finally {after much exhaustion} finally went on another car ride at 2:30 am and it finally did the trick.

All of this to say, the magical car ride it does work on most times, but its not 100% guaranteed. If you were counting that would be a little over a 3 hr sleep night for mommy since I had to get up before 6 am. I sure hope tonight is a little better.

Anyone else have a toddler that just doesn’t want to sleep and any tips? She is going through waking up almost every night lately between 2 am to 3 am. She stays up for at least 2 hrs, if not closer to 3 hrs.

Sleep its precious.

  1. Oh no…you poor thing! I am living in a bubble, where I keep telling myself my Morgan’s sleep will get better as she gets older. Yikes!! I’m not good about sticking to a structured routine every single night, but I’ve read over and over again warm bath before bed and story book time to help them wind down. Sorry I don’t have any better tips for ya 😦

  2. Maybe try shortening her afternoon map, or try your bedtime routine earlier as she may be overtired before you actually start . Sometimes teeth also plays havoc with bedtime!! Good luck, just remember this will pass and them she will be on to something else!!!
